The Year Was 2004...
Myspace dominated the Internet, Google introduced Gmail, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) celebrated the one-year anniversary of the release of the National Do Not Call Registry, and Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook, which was only available to Harvard students at the time.
In 2004, the Internet saw a rapid adoption among Americans, with 63% of American adults reported they were “online.”
However, as more people began using the Internet, concerning issues emerged: identity theft and fraud.
In 2004, the FTC received more than 610,000 consumer fraud and identity theft complaints, with spyware and spam being two of the most concerning consumer issues on the internet.
Fast-Forward 20 Years…
Technology is now integral to consumers’ daily lives, and the Internet has drastically changed since 2004.
Social media platforms, smart devices, and online shopping have become essential for many people. However, as consumers increasingly rely on technology for various aspects of their lives, the threat of cybercrime continues to grow. Last year, the FTC received about 3.6 million reports of fraud and identity theft, marking a substantial increase from the 610,000 reports received in 2004.

Now, two decades later, Iris Powered by Generali celebrates its 20-year anniversary as one of the first companies to offer identity resolution services in the U.S.

In 2006, we expanded our offerings from solely providing resolution services to including credit monitoring. By 2008, identity monitoring had become another valuable addition to our growing suite of services. Over the years, we have continued to expand our offerings to to adapt to the evolving landscape of identity theft and fraud.
Throughout 2024, we will expand our services even more, transitioning from a portal-focused provider to a comprehensive platform. Our platform enables our clients to offer identity protection across a variety of environments, providing them with unparalleled setup flexibility and customization options to meet their unique business needs.
Our expertise in the identity theft landscape, cutting-edge technology, and world-class security measures enable us to provide B2B2C identity and cyber protection to our clients and their customers. However, our drive to create these products comes from our passion and commitment to helping people. From the very beginning, we have been a people-first, technology-forward company!
